Merry Christmas, Alabama

Christmas was such a magical whirlwind for us! It seemed that every moment we spent in South Alabama was consumed by time with family and friends. We left Sunday evening on December 19th, and returned on Sunday morning, January 2nd. While we were busier than we've ever been, it was an absolutely wonderful first Christmas for us as parents, and for Silas. Writing one large post about Christmas would be time consuming and unfulfilling, so I am hoping to divide the holidays up into smaller, more manageable posts!

A wonderful part of the visit was watching Silas and Dylan interact together. Dylan and his parents (my brother, Cliff, and his wife, Samantha) currently live in Syracuse, NY. This was their first visit back since they moved up north. Alan and I were really excited to pick them all up at the airport and spend any time we could with them.

One thing Alan and I have always wanted is for Silas to have cousins close in age, and be able to really get to know them. Neither of us really got to grow up with cousins, and naturally, we want Silas to have what we didn't. Even though Dylan and his parents have moved away, we still have hopes for this!

Watching Dylan (16mos) and Silas (9mos) play together and get to know each other was such treat. I truly hope that we will be blessed to see many more holidays with these two playing together!

Some highlights:

Whenever Dylan found one of Silas' pacis, he would pick it up and try to hand it to Silas--or put it back in Silas' mouth. This is the opposite from the summer when Dylan would try to take the paci for himself!

Dylan also loved to share with Silas. You can see the musical instruments in the pictures below; those were given to Dylan for Christmas by his parents. Silas, though, LOVED the tambourine and carried it around with him; Dylan didn't care and let him play with it. He also handed Silas toys constantly.

Dylan would kneel down near him, or next to him and try to play with him.

Silas loved cousin Dylan, too. You can see in the pictures at the bottom, Silas crawling towards Dylan, while they are on the couch with my mother. Silas was constantly trying to crawl and be close to Dylan.
